About the Role
The HVAC Lead Mechanic plays a critical role in ensuring the optimal performance, safety, and reliability of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems across various facilities. This position is responsible for leading a team of technicians in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of complex HVAC equipment. The Lead Mechanic will oversee daily operations, coordinate preventive maintenance schedules, and ensure compliance with all safety and regulatory standards. By leveraging technical expertise and leadership skills, the role aims to minimize downtime and extend the lifespan of HVAC systems, thereby supporting a comfortable and safe environment for building occupants. Ultimately, the HVAC Lead Mechanic serves as a key contributor to operational efficiency and customer satisfaction within the organization.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of an accredited HVAC apprenticeship or technical training program. Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in HVAC installation, maintenance, and repair. Valid EPA Section 608 Certification for handling refrigerants. Strong knowledge of HVAC systems, including air handlers, chillers, boilers, and controls. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical manuals, and electrical schematics.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate degree or higher in HVAC technology, mechanical engineering, or a related field. Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS). Certification as a Certified HVAC Professional or similar industry-recognized credential. Proven leadership experience in supervising HVAC teams or projects. Familiarity with energy management systems and sustainable HVAC practices.
