Reports to: HVAC Manager | Non-Exempt | Full-time (100% FTE)

About the Role

This position is responsible for supervising and overseeing a variety of skilled work related to the maintenance and repair of heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems, including installation, preventative maintenance, and service calls. This role is classified as Safety Sensitive under the Oklahoma Medical Marijuana and Patient Protection Act and/or Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations. Candidates selected for hire or transfer into this position must undergo and pass a pre-employment drug screen. Employees in safety-sensitive positions may face disciplinary action, up to and including termination, if they test positive for marijuana components or metabolites, even with a medical marijuana license.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises a team of HVAC journeymen, contractors, and apprentices to ensure timely completion of work orders while adhering to city codes, OSHA, and EPA regulations.
  • Oversees the inspection, maintenance, and repair of air handling, cooling, and heating equipment, including window units, rooftop units, chiller units, and reciprocating systems.
  • Checks, renews, or cleans filters in heating or cooling air handling equipment and ventilators; inspects, adjusts, and replaces belts; lubricates motors, bearings, pulleys, and linkages.
  • Installs new HVAC equipment, follows maintenance schedules, logs work accomplished, and interacts with building personnel to identify problems and work locations.
  • Trains, develops, and mentors less experienced employees.
  • Drives district-owned vehicles to assigned sites.
  • Schedules and plans work to meet timelines.
  • Assists with departmental tasks during peak periods or when duties are overloaded.
  • Communicates effectively with OKCPS personnel, students, and visitors.
  • Adapts to changes in core work schedule due to operational needs.
  • May work at an alternative site during health crises or disruptive situations, as determined by the superintendent.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Current Oklahoma unlimited journeyman license.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record to meet district motor vehicle insurance requirements.
  • Current EPA certification.
  • Five years of experience as a journeyman in maintenance of commercial HVAC equipment.
  • Two years of supervisory/foreman experience managing crews of multiple HVAC journeymen.
  • Current Boiler Operator License or ability to obtain within 90 days of employment.
  • Knowledge of current city codes, OSHA, and EPA regulations.
  • Ability to build and maintain schedules for manpower.
  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, design specifications, and drawings for HVAC equipment construction or assembly.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Unlimited Contractor license.

Physical & Mental Requirements

  • Adequate manual dexterity to write legibly and perform computer-based duties.
  • Adequate visual acuity to read, interpret, and transcribe written material.
  • Normal range of hearing and clear speaking abilities for in-person and telephone interactions.
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods.
  • Capable of heavy physical work, including lifting, pushing, or pulling objects up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, sit on the floor, climb stairs/ladders, work in small spaces, walk, and reach overhead.
  • Physical work constitutes more than 70% of the job.

Work Environment

  • Office duties performed in a well-lighted, climate-controlled environment.
  • Frequent exposure to extreme temperatures, toxic chemicals, biohazardous materials, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, and loud noises.
  • May require work outside normal business hours, including weekends, under stressful conditions to meet deadlines.

Pay

Starting salary: $905 (dependent on experience). Work days: 242 (hours may vary).
