About the role
Samsung Austin Semiconductor is seeking a highly motivated HVAC Facilities TL Thermal Engineer to support the Samsung Taylor Facilities Operations Group. The Engineer and their team will tackle complex problems, initiate improvement projects, review designs, and manage projects while overseeing day-to-day activities including Breakdown Maintenance and Preventive Maintenance to improve quality and reliability in support of a semiconductor wafer fab. This role is based in Taylor, TX.
The HVAC thermal team scope includes cooling systems (cooling towers, condenser water, chilled water), heating systems (steam/condensate, hot water), Fab air conditioning (outside air makeup units, dry cooling coils, water spray/scrubbing system), general air conditioning (AHUs, EHPs, CRAC units), and process cooling water (tool heat removal). Facilities HVAC systems are designed to run 24 hours a day, 365 days a year without interruption.
Responsibilities
- Provides oversight and communication to support the needs of operations, instrumentation, maintenance, and external resources to ensure operational sustainability of facilities and equipment.
- Reviews and analyzes process and equipment data to ensure they are running within specifications and sufficient capacity is available to meet operating demand.
- Successfully interfaces with internal customer organizations to sustain uninterrupted operations.
- Improves equipment reliability through FMEA, root cause analysis, and 8D problem solving.
- Supports the development and improvement of operations and maintenance procedures/programs to ensure use of best practices.
- Incorporates best practices into site specifications, standards, and standard operating procedures.
- Forecasts costs and expenditures for operation and maintenance of assigned systems.
- Develops cost reduction projects that reduce operating and maintenance expenses of those systems.
- Mentors junior engineers to facilitate career development and technical expertise.
- Cultivates, sustains, and manages systems to ensure site safety, quality of operation, and environmental stewardship.
- Implements processes and procedures to improve and standardize work across the team and site.
- Provides industry contributions through conferences and other professional organizations.
- Supports test and implementation of innovative new technologies to solve business needs and improve operation.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.
- 8+ years of experience.
- Previous experience in plant operations, reliability engineering, or design engineering.
Pay
The current base salary range for this role is between $76,000 - $145,000. Individual base pay rates will depend on factors including duties, work location, education, skills, qualifications, and experience. Total compensation for this position will include a competitive benefits package and may include participation in company incentive compensation programs, which are based on factors including organizational and individual performance.
