About the role

The Controls Technician III position is critical to ensuring our customers receive top-notch service in the installation, programming, and service of commercial digital control systems. This role involves technician support for Building Automation Systems (BAS), service contracts, system upgrades, and controls-related service requests. The technician will also provide responsive and professional customer service, identify, analyze, diagnose, and troubleshoot direct digital control systems, perform preventative maintenance, commissioning, and replacement modifications, maintain building automation systems, provide controls technical support, create and/or implement programming and graphics for new installations and retrofit projects, commission controls installations, and train and follow up with customers and operations personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technician support for Building Automation Systems (BAS), service contracts, system upgrades, and controls related service requests.
  • Identify, analyze, diagnose, and troubleshoot direct digital control systems.
  • Perform preventative maintenance, commissioning, and replacement modifications as needed or requested by customers.
  • Maintain building automation systems by inspecting trend logs, reports, schedules, applications, hardware, and programming.
  • Create and/or implement programming and graphics for new installations and retrofit projects.
  • Commission controls installations and verify that control sequences meet scope, design, or specifications.
  • Provide training and follow-ups for Customers and operations personnel.
  • Complete work orders and review with customers for accuracy.
  • Continually look for ways to improve our processes and ability to serve our customers effectively.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • 5+ years related experience.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to lift 50lbs with or without accommodation.
  • Required license(s) and/or training card as required by local law district.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in mentoring less experienced technicians.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Certification.
  • Current first aid / CPR card.
  • Proficiency with test instruments and calibration tools.
  • Competency in operation of engineering/commissioning tools, DDC controllers and field devices, BACnet protocol fundamentals.
  • Competency in the operation of HVAC equipment and controls.
  • Ability to understand written sequences of operation.
  • Ability to read low voltage wiring diagrams and controls flow diagrams.
  • Niagara AX and/or Niagara 4 certification.
  • Experience with common integration protocols such as: BACnet MST / IP, LON, Modbus TCP / RTU, Ethernet OIP, MQTT, or SQL.
  • Strong computer skills, including computer networking fundamentals.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Customer-focused, results-oriented professional, and strong team player.
  • Motivated self-starter that demonstrates initiative.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities and stay organized.

Skills

  • Technical knowledge of Building Automation Systems (BAS).
  • Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues with direct digital control systems.
  • Proficiency in commissioning and replacing building automation components.
  • Knowledge of HVAC equipment and controls.
  • Ability to create and implement programming and graphics for new installations and retrofit projects.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Pay

The typical hourly pay rate for this position ranges from $35.40 -$68.39 in DC/MD/VA. The range displayed represents the pay range for all positions in the job grade which this position falls. Individual base pay will depend on a wide range of factors including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
