HVAC Controls & Commissioning Technician

What You'll Do

  • Perform start-up, checkout, commissioning, and troubleshooting of critical environment airflow control systems and HVAC equipment.
  • Support commissioning activities for specialized spaces such as laboratories, healthcare facilities, clean rooms, and pharmaceutical environments.
  • Read and interpret mechanical drawings, specifications, sequences of operation, and equipment performance data.
  • Perform wiring, terminations, device verification, and functional testing utilizing commissioning tools and manufacturer software platforms.
  • Diagnose, test, adjust, and balance system components to achieve required airflow relationships, room pressurization, and overall system performance.
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, including installation records, as-built drawings, programming files, and commissioning reports.
  • Participate in job site meetings, project walkthroughs, owner training, and final commissioning activities on assigned projects.
  • Continually enforce safety to the highest standards and maintain security and accountability of company issued and procured assets by recording use, wear and conditions.
  • Attend training courses for multiple manufacturers to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to work on the lab control & air monitoring systems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

  • High school diploma or state-recognized GED; Mechanical, electrical, HVAC or related technical degree preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience installing and servicing electronic control or HVAC equipment preferred.
  • Basic understanding of HVAC systems, airflow, temperature controls, and mechanical equipment operation.
  • Mechanical aptitude with a strong desire to learn specialized critical environment systems and advanced airflow control technologies.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, wiring diagrams, and technical specifications.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for troubleshooting and problem-solving with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and communicate clearly with customers, contractors, subcontractors, and internal team members.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel & Outlook).

Physical Demands

  • Ability to work in a variety of circumstances, including but not limited to standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing ladders, scaffolds, and high-lift equipment;
  • Working in ducts, crawl spaces, roofs, basements, above ceilings, and in outside/inside/heat/cold/day/night conditions.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • May be required to satisfy requirements imposed by specific projects, customers, or company.
  • Must be able to use hand tools, laptop, email, smartphone, and tablet.
  • Must be able to carry and move equipment and tools weighing up to 40 pounds unassisted.
