About the role
Trane is hiring a Controls Estimator to work with building owners, providing estimates and quotes for HVAC Controls projects. We focus on delivering total solutions to provide customers with the most energy-efficient buildings.
Responsibilities
- Prepare cost estimates covering materials, sub-contractors, purchased equipment, labor (start-up, service work, etc.), and other construction-related activities to assist Account Managers in bidding or pricing projects.
- Develop detailed scope based on Account Managers' design-build scope or plans and specifications for competitive bidding.
- Create detailed cost estimates including system sketches, scope definition, exceptions/exclusions, preliminary proposals, vendor/sub-contractor quotes, and points lists.
- Perform take-off and pricing of purchased equipment, ensuring accuracy in quantity, size, configuration, voltage, and options.
- Hold pre-bid meetings with Account Managers to review scope and strategy.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities and risk items for various projects.
- Optimize job costs by negotiating prices with vendors/sub-contractors through quotations for materials and services.
- Assist Account Managers in determining the need for engineering involvement and collaborate with Operations/Fulfillment groups to control cost variations in labor, material, and electrical subcontracts.
Requirements
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field with a minimum of 3 to 5 years’ experience in estimating, engineering, or construction management; OR 5 to 7 years of controls field experience; OR equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience with Building Automation, HVAC Controls, and HVAC Systems preferred.
- Familiarity with interpreting construction documents, including plans, details, and specifications.
- Working knowledge of construction facets such as mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems preferred.
- Strong financial and business acumen with a history of delivering projects on time and on budget.
- Proven ability to prioritize tasks in a high-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Experience working directly with building owners is a plus.
- Flexibility to work outside normal hours as required.
- Ability to travel locally with a valid driver’s license for at least 12 months, free of major or frequent traffic violations (e.g., DUI, Hit & Run, License Suspension, Reckless/Careless Driving, or multiple smaller infractions/preventable collisions in the past 3 years).
Schedule
Monday to Thursday: Work onsite with colleagues. Fridays: Flexible work location, balancing work requirements.
Pay
Annual base salary range: $78,406.66 - $109,479.99. This is a salaried position with incentive eligibility. Compensation is tailored to factors such as seniority, merit, geographic location, education, experience, travel requirements, and union designation.
