About the Role

The Commercial Sheet Metal Apprentice role is designed to provide comprehensive hands-on training and experience in the fabrication, installation, and maintenance of commercial sheet metal systems. This position is critical in supporting skilled tradespeople by learning to interpret blueprints, measure and cut materials accurately, and assemble components to meet project specifications. The apprentice will develop expertise in working with various metals and tools while adhering to safety standards and building codes. Over time, the role aims to cultivate a highly skilled sheet metal professional capable of contributing to complex commercial construction and renovation projects. This apprenticeship offers a pathway to a rewarding career in the sheet metal trade across multiple locations including Chillicothe, Circleville, Columbus, and Lancaster.

Responsibilities

  • Assist experienced sheet metal workers in fabricating, assembling, and installing ductwork, roofing, and other metal components for commercial buildings.
  • Learn to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications to ensure accurate material preparation and installation.
  • Operate hand and power tools safely and efficiently under supervision to cut, bend, and shape sheet metal.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment while following all safety protocols and regulations.
  • Participate in on-the-job training and attend related technical classes to develop trade knowledge and skills.

Skills

  • The required skills such as basic math and the ability to follow safety protocols are essential for accurately measuring, cutting, and shaping sheet metal materials while maintaining a safe work environment.
  • Apprentices will use their developing blueprint reading skills daily to understand project requirements and ensure precise fabrication and installation.
  • Preferred skills like familiarity with tools and prior metalworking experience enhance efficiency and quality of work, allowing the apprentice to contribute more effectively to the team.
  • Physical stamina and dexterity are crucial for handling materials and tools throughout the workday, often in varied and sometimes challenging environments.
