Human Services Housing Specialist
Position Summary/Responsibilities
The Housing Specialist will assist individuals with serious mental illness to secure and maintain stable, affordable rental housing in the community. This is done by coordinating services and offering community-based treatment and rehabilitative services.
- A typical week usually consists of assisting individuals with developing a supportive housing plan, documenting direct services, identifying affordable housing options, meetings with landlords, inspections to ensure units meet standards, and monitoring satisfaction of services which consists of visits with the individual, family members, and/or providers.
- A successful candidate will be experienced working with individuals with mental illness with knowledge of services and systems available in the community, who is motivated to learn and implement a new initiative.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor's degree required or equivalent work experience.
- Experience: Two years of work experience in the human services field required. Experience with individuals who have experienced homelessness or serious mental illness is a plus!
- Background Check: Fingerprints, State and FBI criminal record reports, drug test, and central registry report will be required upon selection.
- Safe Driving Record: This position requires transporting clients or driving agency vehicles. Candidates must have a good driving record, which is defined as no more than two moving violations in the last three years and no criminal moving violations in the last five years.
Special Work Conditions
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee will often sit, stand, walk, bend, stoop, climb and reach above their head. Use of hands for placing and pulling objects.
- The employee frequently lifts and or carries up to 20 pounds and pushes or pulls up to 20 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision (computer & paperwork).
- Specific hearing required by this job includes normal tones.
- Travel up to 10%.
- Travel to various apartments in the community for the purpose of monitoring housing needs; Transportation of individuals into the community to ensure informed choice of housing options.
Hiring Range
The anticipated base salary for this position is $43,120.62 to $53,900.78. Actual compensation offered within this range will be determined based on the candidate's experience, education, qualifications (knowledge, skills, and abilities), geographic location, complexity of role, and other relevant business considerations.
