About the role

The Town of Fort Mill, South Carolina, is seeking a strategic and forward-thinking Human Resources Director to lead and modernize the organization’s human resources function during a period of significant growth and organizational evolution.

Responsibilities

  • Leading all aspects of the Town’s human resources operations, including talent acquisition, compensation and classification, employee relations, organizational development, performance management, succession planning, and HR systems administration.
  • Serving as a member of the executive leadership team and reporting directly to the Town Manager.
  • Supervising three direct reports and working closely with Department Heads and the Finance Department to support organizational and fiscal objectives.
  • Implementing and managing the Town’s 2026 Compensation Study.
  • Supporting workforce growth following the addition of 29 positions over two fiscal years.
  • Modernizing HR systems and analytics capabilities.
  • Strengthening performance management practices.
  • Developing sustainable personnel cost strategies.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Public Administration, Business Administration, or a related field, with a master’s degree preferred.
  • At least seven to ten years of progressively responsible human resources experience, including leadership and supervisory responsibilities.
  • Experience in local government or the public sector is strongly preferred.

  • Experience navigating complex organizational and political environments and using data and metrics to guide decision-making is highly valued.
