About the role
The South Carolina Department of Agriculture is seeking a dynamic Human Resources Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will possess strong customer service skills, a keen eye for detail, and exceptional organizational abilities.
Responsibilities
- Provide general human resources assistance to employees.
- Create new hire files and maintain employee files, both electronic and paper.
- Assist callers on the main SCDA telephone line and welcome visitors to the agency.
- Maintain a comprehensive filing system for personnel, positions, and postings.
- Update organizational charts.
- Assist with collecting, documenting, and filing employee evaluations and planning stages.
- Collaborate with teammates to prepare content and submit contributions for the monthly employee newsletter.
- Support recruiting efforts, including creating job postings, dispositioning candidates, scheduling interviews, documenting candidates in the online applicant system, and serving on interview panels.
- Call references for job applicants.
- Schedule training, order ID badges for employees, and request visitor parking spaces.
- Draft revisions to human resources policies and procedures.
- Assist in planning and executing human resources-related events.
- Proofread internal documents for proper grammar, punctuation, and formatting.
- Review time entry reports within HRIS and communicate with employees and/or supervisors regarding missing information.
- Mail out COBRA Notices as directed by HR staff members.
Requirements
- Associate’s degree and two years of administrative or human resources experience (a bachelor’s degree may substitute for the required work experience).
- Knowledge of office practices and procedures.
- Ability to communicate effectively with employees and all levels of management.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to maintain positive working relationships with customers, employees, and co-workers.
- Ability to sit or stand for long periods while performing computer work.
- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds and perform tasks requiring standing, lifting, or bending for short periods.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and assignments simultaneously.
- High degree of professionalism and confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior Human Resources experience.
- Experience with the SC Enterprise Information Service (SCEIS).
