About the role

The Human Resources Assistant holds the primary responsibility for generalist human resource functions and duties in the routine management of the Office of Human Resources.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the first point of contact for the HR office handling all incoming calls, employment claims and verifications, and general information.
  • Ensure office practices are held to the highest standard for confidentiality and privacy.
  • Thoroughly document processes and programs for full audit compliance.
  • Responsible for file maintenance.
  • Primary facilitator in recruitment functions to include job postings, applicant tracking, applicant follow-up, and hiring processes.
  • Provide employee benefits and payroll processing backup support and assistance as needed.
  • Serve as backup support for the Title IX team.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor.

Requirements

Education & Professional Experience

  • Associate's degree in Human Resources or related field.
  • 1 year of professional experience in Human Resources or related field.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • 2-3 years of professional experience in Human Resources.
  • Professional Human Resources Certification.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to think critically and seek solutions which result in mutually beneficial outcomes.
  • Ability to work with highly sensitive and confidential data and retain all records as such.
  • Knowledge and understanding of rules and techniques for maintaining legal records.
  • Ability to be a resourceful problem-solver.
  • Ability to work in a collaborative environment as a team player and provide support on a wide range of topics to University faculty and staff.
  • Demonstrated excellent relevant written and verbal communication skills.
  • Comprehensive understanding of recruiting, retention, and personnel management techniques and best practices.
  • A tolerance for ambiguity and a willingness to manage diverse and frequently changing assignments, particularly the ability to do so with a positive attitude and a sense of humor in a high-task environment.
  • Experience and knowledge of working with HRIS systems.

Equipment Used

  • Personal computer, including spreadsheet, word processing software, and integrated database programs.
  • Fax machine, copier, telephone, scanner, and printers.

Employee in this position must have a valid Ohio driver’s license.

Physical Demands

  • Frequently required to use arms, hands, and fingers to operate and manipulate equipment generally found in an office setting.
  • Frequently required to be mobile, communicate, and hear.
  • Occasionally subject to a variety of outdoor environmental conditions including heat, cold, and precipitation.
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to ten (10) pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than twenty (20) pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Mental demands include varied degrees of occasional stress while performing job duties.

Work Environment

  • Frequently works in an office setting, educational facilities including sports and entertainment venues, all of which may be indoor or outdoor.
  • The noise level in the work environment is moderately quiet.
