HSET Training Supervisor

About the role

The HSET Field Specialist delivers and audits training programs tailored to underground operations, covering safety protocols, equipment operation, emergency response, and compliance with industry regulations. The role ensures all employees—from new hires to seasoned workers—receive consistent training that meets organizational standards and legal requirements.

Responsibilities

• Implement comprehensive training programs for underground operations, including equipment operation, task safety, and emergency response.
• Conduct on-site training sessions and workshops in an underground environment for individual and group-based trainees, ensuring training material is relevant, up-to-date, and effectively delivered.
• Ensure all training programs comply with local, state, and federal regulations and industry standards.
• Conduct regular safety briefings and drills to reinforce safety protocols and emergency response procedures.
• Assess the skill levels of personnel through practical and theoretical evaluations.
• Provide certification for employees upon successful completion of training programs, ensuring they meet required competency levels.
• Develop and maintain training materials, manuals, and documentation, ensuring accessibility and clarity for all employees.
• Utilize a variety of training methods (hands-on practice, classroom instruction, digital learning tools) to accommodate different learning styles.
• Monitor employee performance in the field to identify further training needs or adjustments to training programs.
• Provide constructive feedback to employees and management on training outcomes and individual progress.
• Collaborate with management, safety personnel, and operational leaders to align training programs with organizational goals and operational requirements.
• Serve as a point of contact for training-related queries and concerns from employees and management.
• Maintain work areas safe and free of hazards, performing Field Level Risk Assessments.
• Comply with daily, weekly, and monthly safety directives, policies, and procedures.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding Redpath and client information.
• Comply with Redpath’s Policies and Procedures as detailed in manuals, handbooks, directives, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
• Demonstrate proper use and safe handling of tools, equipment, and materials.
• Assist other job functions as required.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements

• Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety or related field (preferred).
• Mine Safety Professional (CMSP) certification (preferred).
• MSHA Instructor certification (Surface and Underground).
• Incident Investigation Training.
• Redpath Train the Trainer qualification.
• Proven experience in an underground operations role, with a strong understanding of specific challenges and safety requirements.
• Certified Trainer with qualifications relevant to underground operations (e.g., MSHA certification).
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and educate a diverse workforce.
• Strong organizational and planning skills, with the ability to develop and implement effective training programs.
• Commitment to maintaining high safety standards and up-to-date knowledge of industry regulations and best practices.
• Ability to work in physically demanding underground environments and adapt to varying conditions.
• Knowledge of the mining industry’s underground environment.
• Ability to read and understand engineering prints (civil work, structural work, rock excavation work).
• Knowledge and understanding of mine regulations pertaining to construction in mining.
• Ability to pass background clearance check, drug screening, and physical.
• Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
• Ability to prepare written reports and correspondence.
• Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
• Ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision.
• High level of attention to detail, neatness, and accuracy.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
• Appointed as site trainer.
• If required to operate a company vehicle, must possess a current State Driver’s License and acceptable driving record.

Schedule

Able to work in excess of 40 hours a week, including overtime, day and night shifts, weekends, holidays, and shift rotations.
