How You’ll Make an Impact
The HSES Specialist will drive excellence and innovation by providing strategic and tactical leadership in the development and implementation of the facility’s Health, Safety, Environmental, and Security programs and initiatives. The HSES Specialist will be highly involved with training, development and maintenance of the site Safety Management System to promote continuous improvement in safety performance and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Ensure compliance with all existing and future applicable laws and regulations of the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ), the Occupational Safety and Health Organization (OSHA) and Lubrizol standards and policies.
- Provide technical support and training to plant personnel regarding HSES regulations and standards.
- Leading hazard assessment activities that include safety inspections, investigations, industrial hygiene surveys and Job Hazard Analysis (JHA).
- Maintain, update and ensure compliance with site safety processes that include hazard communications, confined space entry, hot work, lockout/tagout, and working at heights.
- Ensure compliance with all HSES regulatory programs that include OSHA, medical surveillance, PSM, RMP, DOT, TSCA, SPCC, SWPP and RCRA.
- Interface with government agencies and the public on environmental matters and requirements related to operations at the facility.
- Aid in the preparation of environmental permits and other routine and non-routine submittals for the appropriate environmental media in an accurate and timely manner.
- Participate in site emergency response team during training, drills and emergency response.
- Participate in site safety committee meetings and ensure adequate response to safety concerns.
- Partner with all levels of the plant to support the facility’s compliance with RC14001.
- Assist the HSES manager with site security programs and improvements.
Required Qualifications that Enable Your Success
- Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
- 1 + years experience in an industrial environment
- Strong critical thinking, communication, multi-tasking skills.
- Ability to effectively & efficiently communicate both verbally & written
- Demonstrated troubleshooting abilities combined with attention to details.
Preferred Qualifications that Drive you Forward
- Any of the BCSP Certifications are a plus including CSP, ASP, GSP, CHMM, OHST, CSHM, STS, etc.
