About the Role
This position is responsible for directing the company’s Health, Safety, Environmental, and Security (HSE) programs and policies for the Jackson facility. The role ensures compliance with all local, state, and federal health, safety, and environmental regulations and serves as the site’s interface with HSE regulatory agencies. The incumbent is the management representative for the site’s ISO 14001 certification and oversees security and emergency response for the Jackson site. As a member of the site leadership team, this position is responsible for the professional development and career advancement of direct reports and manages costs related to HSE programs and initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Drive and support health, safety, and environmental initiatives and programs at the Jackson facility.
- Act as a role model for desired safety behaviors and actively participate in all site safety processes and rituals.
- Spend time in the field observing, assessing, and conversing to understand the state and health of HSE compliance.
- Use feedback and data to adjust programs, drive HSE strategy, and address workforce needs.
- Analyze data and trends to proactively address emerging issues and evolving conditions.
- Utilize incident reports, observation data, and other information to drive continuous improvement in safety.
- Implement company-wide procedures and policies as required.
- Establish, maintain, and communicate key HSE KPI performance to management and site personnel.
- Ensure HSE programs and policies comply with LYB Operational Excellence expectations.
- Oversee and assure the quality of the OE self-assessment and audit process for the facility.
- Ensure timely and proper investigation and follow-up on safety concerns, near misses, and incident reports.
- Develop and implement business-driven and cost-effective HSE strategies.
- Drive a GoalZERO culture through analysis of human and organizational performance.
- Enhance the site’s security and emergency response capabilities.
- Maintain the site ISO 14001 environmental management system and certification.
- Serve as the Management Representative for ISO 14001 and oversee internal and third-party audit programs.
- Ensure effective corrective action and follow-up to any audit nonconformances or deficiencies.
- Share best practices and benchmark with local industry and other LYB sites.
Requirements
- B.S. degree in Engineering, relevant sciences, specific HSE discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Thorough knowledge of ISO 14001 Environmental Management Standard.
- At least five to seven years of relevant HSE and leadership experience in the chemical or related industry.
- Prior experience in HSE management is preferred.
- Specialized certification such as Certified Safety Specialist (CSP) or Certified Occupational Safety Specialist (COSS) is highly recommended.
- Strong computer and communication skills to interface with all departments and levels of the organization.
