HSE Engineer II

About the role

As a Process Safety Engineer at Honeywell, you will oversee and direct the organization's Process Safety engineering efforts. You will ensure the highest standards of health and safety for employees, compliance with safety and environmental regulations and industry standards, and the implementation of best practices. This role impacts Honeywell’s safety culture and environmental performance by identifying hazards, ensuring regulatory compliance, and fostering continuous improvement in health, safety, and environmental practices. Collaboration with cross-functional teams and influencing stakeholders will integrate HSE considerations into business processes and decision-making, contributing to the company’s reputation as a responsible and sustainable organization.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement comprehensive HSE strategies that align with the organization's mission, ensuring a culture of safety, health, and environmental responsibility
• Ensure compliance with all relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations, permits, and certifications
• Lead or participate in hazard reviews and Pre-Startup Safety Reviews of manufacturing activities
• Conduct risk assessments and safety audits to identify and mitigate potential hazards, providing engineering solutions and preventive measures
• Lead or participate in investigations of process-related incidents
• Conduct training on process safety-related topics; develop and update training materials as needed
• Generate periodic reports on the status of various process safety-related activities; follow up with management to ensure timely completion
• Work with the Pilot Plant Engineering Design and Construction group to develop engineering design standards related to process safety systems

Requirements

• 2–5 years of experience in process engineering, project engineering, or operations in chemical or petrochemical processing, refining, or R&D
• In-depth knowledge of health, safety, and environmental regulations and best practices
• Proficiency in HSE Management Systems
• Excellent communication, problem-solving, and strategic planning abilities
• Must be a U.S. Person (U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, or have protected status in the U.S. under asylum or refugee status) due to compliance with U.S. export control laws and regulations

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering or a related field (preferred)
• PSM (Process Safety Management) experience (preferred)
• Passion for promoting a culture of safety and environmental stewardship
• Strong people skills, time management, and personnel training programs
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced and dynamic environment
• Commitment to continuous learning and development

Pay

The annual base salary range for this position in Des Plaines, IL serves as a general guideline. Honeywell considers factors such as the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education, training, key skills, and market and business considerations when extending an offer.
