About the role

Reporting to the Operations Manager and liaising with the Director and Senior Manager HSE, the HSE and Security Manager is responsible for championing HSE systems to maintain and improve best-in-class HSE performance. This role ensures HSE policy and procedure compliance, strengthens communication, and scales HSE practices to accommodate growth. Additionally, the HSE and Security Manager oversees site security operations for workforce accommodation, ensuring the protection of residents, staff, visitors, company assets, and facilities through security protocols, access control, emergency response, and contractor security requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Manage and support the safety practices, policies, procedures, and plans of the company.
  • Provide leadership for HSE programs in alignment with Dexterra Group’s HSE direction.
  • Deliver training, leadership, and support to prevent work-related injuries and illnesses, ensure safe workplaces, and protect the environment.
  • Support senior leadership and management in HSE strategy and program deployment with a strong business perspective.
  • Assist business development with required HSE documentation.
  • Drive HSE performance to meet business targets and improvement levels.
  • Implement new HSE initiatives and promotions in consultation with the Director and Senior Manager HSE.
  • Ensure operational teams are aware of HSEQ communications and publications.
  • Provide direction for incident investigations, including workers' compensation claims, focusing on root cause analysis and prevention.
  • Conduct assessments and provide recommendations on hazards, risk controls, and critical controls.
  • Support annual audits for ISO certification maintenance.
  • Maintain current knowledge of local, state, and federal HSE regulations and standards.
  • Engage with regulatory agencies and support corrective actions from regulatory visits.
  • Update employees and management on current HSE industry topics and trends.
  • Collaborate with the HSEQ team to improve the HSE management system.
  • Exercise authority to maintain safe practices, including stopping unsafe operations.
  • Ensure compliance of company equipment and buildings with safety, fire, and other regulations.
  • Engage with contractors and support contractor evaluations.
  • Support operations with applicable electronic systems.
  • Manage all security programs and activities at the Maverick Workforce Accommodation site, ensuring compliance with company, client, and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee site access control, visitor management, and physical security measures.
  • Supervise and support security personnel and contractors, ensuring training and compliance with site standards.
  • Conduct security risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Investigate security incidents, breaches, thefts, and implement corrective actions.
  • Collaborate with site operations, client representatives, emergency services, and regulatory agencies on security matters.
  • Ensure emergency response, evacuation, and business continuity plans incorporate security requirements and are regularly tested.
  • Monitor security trends and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support workforce accommodation operations to ensure a safe, secure, and welcoming environment.
  • Conduct regular audits and inspections of security systems, procedures, and contractor performance.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate Degree in Health & Safety, Science, Public Health, or equivalent.
  • CSP or international equivalent certification.
  • Auditing certifications (e.g., ISO or Environmental Auditing) are an asset.
  • Valid First Aid and working at heights certifications are an asset.
  • Valid driver’s license and flexibility to travel.
  • Background in Military and/or Law enforcement is desirable.
  • 5+ years of experience in health, safety, or environment.
  • 5+ years of experience managing people.
  • Completion of OHSA 30 training is an asset.
