About the role

The North Clackamas School District seeks a school custodian to join our team. This position requires a strong commitment to maintaining a clean and safe learning environment, supporting teachers, and fostering a diverse and inclusive community.

Responsibilities

  • Cleaning Functions: Sweep, mop, vacuum, scrub, and refinish floors; clean, dust and polish furniture; wash windows and walls; clean restrooms; dispose of rubbish, change lights, etc.; keep all areas of the building clean, sanitary, and orderly.
  • Pick up litter within the schools and on school grounds.
  • Assure safety during inclement weather, including shoveling, salting, providing slip protection on wet floors, securing against wind damage, snow removal from roofs, etc.
  • Apply cleaning chemicals according to established safety procedures.
  • Operate HVAC system of assigned school; change belts, lubricate, or make adjustments as needed.
  • Perform minor repair and maintenance as authorized by district maintenance staff.
  • Remove extraneous dirt/markings from interior and exterior vertical/horizontal surfaces (walls, doors, etc.).
  • Maintain awareness of energy conservation and suggest methods to save energy.
  • Secure equipment and supplies and protect against pilferage, loss, theft, or abuse.
  • Safety and Security: Conduct daily inspections and maintain awareness of the facility and equipment to detect and prevent injuries or damage. Secure the school building to ensure proper building security at all times. Lock, secure, and code out the building at the end of the shift. Verify that emergency equipment is maintained and repaired as needed. Assist in implementing emergency planning and response.

Requirements

  • Successful experience in working with culturally diverse families and communities, or demonstrated commitment to engaging a diverse community.
  • Graduation from high school or equivalent, or at least two years of custodial experience.
  • Ability to communicate and maintain good working relations with all District employees, vendors, contractors, and public entities.
  • Initiative and ability to work with minimal direction; sound judgment and decision-making capabilities are essential.
  • Knowledge of state and local codes related to assigned trade/craft.
  • Ability to work using ladders, scaffolding, mechanical lifts and district vehicles.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and move heavier materials using appropriate equipment.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Qualifications: Successful experience in working with culturally diverse families and communities, or have otherwise demonstrated a commitment to strengthening engagement of a diverse community and skill in communicating with a diverse population. Graduation from high school or equivalent, or at least two years of custodial experience may substitute for the education requirement. May be trained in first aid certification/CPR and defibrillator training.
  • Desired Qualifications: Bilingual and bicultural skills. Experience with and knowledge of intrusion alarms, automatic fire alarm/sprinkler systems, HVAC systems and controls.

Must have the ability to spend most of the work day standing, lifting, and walking. Must have the ability to perform minor repair and maintenance as authorized by district maintenance staff. Must have the ability to remove extraneous dirt/markings from interior and exterior vertical/horizontal surfaces (walls, doors, etc.). Must have the ability to operate HVAC system of assigned school; change belts, lubricate, or make adjustments as needed. Must have the ability to perform daily inspections and maintain awareness of the facility and equipment to detect and prevent injuries or damage. Must have the ability to secure equipment and supplies and protect against pilferage, loss, theft, or abuse. Must have the ability to conduct daily inspections and maintain awareness of the facility and equipment to detect and prevent injuries or damage. Must have the ability to secure the school building to ensure proper building security at all times. Must have the ability to lock, secure, and code out the building at the end of the shift. Must have the ability to verify that emergency equipment is maintained and repaired as needed. Must have the ability to assist in implementing emergency planning and response.

Benefits

The North Clackamas School District offers a competitive compensation package, including retirement contributions and a flexible work schedule. The position is full-time and permanent, with initial wage placement according to the NCSD/OSEA Collective Bargaining Agreement. The work schedule is from 3:15 pm to 11:45 pm, subject to change depending on department needs. The work calendar is 260 days per year.
