About the Role

Teachers plan, implement, and supervise all classroom activities, working with typically developing children and children with disabilities. This position collaborates with an integrated team to support the goals of the program.

Responsibilities

• Work with program management and specialist staff to ensure the classroom environment and activities meet all applicable local, state, and federal regulations, including program policies, Head Start Program Performance Standards, Texas Education Agency, NAEYC Accreditation Standards, and TDFPS (Child Care Licensing) regulations.
• Create a classroom environment conducive to learning, capturing children’s interest through engaging and developmentally appropriate activities.
• Plan and implement the prescribed educational curriculum through learning experiences that advance children’s intellectual, social, and physical development.
• Develop and implement lesson plans and daily routines based on observations of children’s interests and current levels of functioning.
• Employ a variety of instructional techniques and media, using authentic, performance-based assessment and research tailored to children’s needs.
• Screen, observe, and document progress in the program’s prescribed assessment system.
• Communicate regularly with parents regarding their children’s academic and developmental progress and document these communications.
• Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for Teaching Assistants and volunteers.
• Maintain regular attendance, accurate records, and timely submission of reports.
• Perform any other duties as required.

Requirements

• Experience working with young and school-aged children and/or teaching experience highly desirable.
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) required for certain locations/assignments.
• Highly qualified valid Texas Teaching Certificate as required by teaching assignment or acceptance into an approved Alternative Certification Program with results of the TExES exam.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Elementary Education, or a related field preferred. A bachelor’s degree in another discipline is acceptable with 18 hours of coursework in early childhood education.
