HS Assistant Band Director - Percussion
Primary Purpose
Affords assistance in directing and managing the district's instrumental music program. Participates and collaborates with the band staff at both the high school and middle school levels. Provides students with opportunities to engage in extracurricular band activities while ensuring compliance with state, UIL, and district requirements.
Major Responsibilities And Duties
Program Planning:
- Assists with the direction of middle school instrumental performers.
- Establishes performance requirements and enforces academic requirements.
- Verifies each student’s eligibility to participate in band.
- Ensures band participation at extracurricular events such as concerts, football games, pep rallies, parades, and UIL activities.
- Arranges transportation, lodging, and meals for out-of-town events.
- Complies with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, UIL rules, and board policy in the band area.
- Supports band booster club activities.
- Uses evaluative findings (including student achievement data) to determine program effectiveness and ensure continuous renewal that responds to student needs.
- Encourages students to excel in both band programs and academic arenas.
Budget and Inventory:
- Coordinates fundraising activities and assists with the management of funds.
- Assists in tracking current inventory of all fixed assets within the department, including maintenance and cleaning of instruments.
Instruction:
- Presents subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, board policies, and administrative regulations.
- Plans and uses appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
- Conducts ongoing assessments of student achievement through formal and informal testing.
- Creates an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
Student Management:
- Applies and enforces student discipline in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
- Accompanies and supervises students on out-of-town trips.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
Communication:
- Establishes and maintains open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
- Maintains professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
Special Knowledge / Skills
Knowledge of overall operation of instrumental music program.
Ability to manage budget and personnel.
Knowledge of state and UIL policies governing band.
Ability to implement policy and procedures.
Ability to interpret data.
Strong communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills.
Experience / Other Requirements
Three years of teaching, band experience is preferred.
Class B CDL with P and S endorsement is preferred.
