HR Manager
A Safe Place is the only organization in Lake County, Illinois, dedicated exclusively to supporting victims of domestic violence and human trafficking. Through comprehensive programs, we provide survivors with resources to rebuild their lives, prevent future abuse through targeted abuser intervention, and educate the community on ending these pervasive issues. Our mission is to foster a community-wide response to domestic violence and human trafficking by raising awareness and teaching effective ways to address them. All services are offered free of charge to survivors.
About the role
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the HR Manager is a department of one and the main point of contact for employees and managers. This role advises the senior leadership team to ensure HR practices align with employment law and organizational policies. The HR Manager supports a variety of HR functions including employee relations, recruitment, onboarding, compliance, performance management, and benefits administration, while promoting a positive and productive workplace culture.

Responsibilities
- Coach and advise senior leadership on HR strategy and best practices.
- Serve as the subject matter expert on HR-related topics.
- Review HR policies and procedures to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws.
- Review HR procedures, recommend, and implement process improvements.
- Recruit for open positions, including posting roles, interviewing, and ensuring a smooth onboarding experience for new hires.
- Conduct investigations as needed to resolve workplace conflict and promote a positive workplace culture.
- Lead the performance review process, coach managers on performance improvement strategies, and ensure all performance issues are documented.
- Benchmark compensation data and lead compensation reviews and salary adjustments.
- Administer employee benefit programs and answer employee benefit questions.
- Coordinate and support training programs, professional development, and leadership development initiatives.
- Manage the LMS (Learning Management System) and assist with training assignments for staff.
- Maintain HRIS to ensure data accuracy.
- Manage the employee separation process and conduct employee exit interviews.
Requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
- 5+ years’ experience in Human Resources.
- Previous HR experience at a nonprofit a plus.
- HR Certification (SHRM-CP or PHR) preferred.

Pay
$70,000-$87,000 annually
