Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive on-site evaluations of HPR and high-hazard occupancies.
- Audit fire protection systems, building construction, occupancy-specific hazards, and exposure to natural catastrophes.
- Calculate Normal Loss Expectancies (NLEs), Probable Maximum Losses (PMLs), Maximum Foreseeable Losses (MFLs), and other required loss expectancies according to carrier guidelines.
- Evaluate the adequacy of automatic fire protection systems and water supplies for manufacturing and storage occupancies.
- Identify relevant loss exposures and recommend protective measures.
- Document site conditions with photographs and detailed notes.
- Interview facility personnel to gather information regarding operations and safety procedures.
Technical Analysis & Reporting
- Prepare thorough engineering reports that align with carrier specifications and deadlines.
- Apply NFPA codes, FM Data Sheets, and industry standards when formulating recommendations.
- Present findings clearly and effectively, prioritizing critical risks and controls.
- Ensure that all reports are accurate, complete, and professionally formatted.
- Respond promptly to feedback and quality control requests as necessary.
Client & Operational Coordination
- Cook up and schedule site visits with property owners and insurance representatives.
- Represent Risk Logic with professionalism during all client engagements.
- Provide regular updates to operations management regarding assignment status and any challenges encountered.
- Self-manage schedules and workloads to consistently meet project deadlines.
- Utilize various work management and reporting software platforms as required.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Fire Protection, Chemical, Mechanical, etc.) or related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in commercial property risk engineering or loss control.
- Comprehensive knowledge of NFPA codes and FM Data Sheets.
- Experience with HPR standards and high-hazard manufacturing or industrial facilities.
- Demonstrated ability to produce clear and well-structured engineering reports.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple assignments effectively.
- Valid driver's license and willingness to travel within the assigned territory.
- Readiness to learn and utilize online reporting platforms such as LC360 and similar applications.
- Professional engineering license or industry certifications (e.g., ARM, CFPS).
- Prior experience with FM, IRI, or other large property carriers / comparable organizations.
- Experience supporting multiple commercial insurance carriers.
- Familiarity with Risk Management Information Systems (RMIS) or equivalent insurance workflow platforms.
- Engagement as an independent contractor.
- You would be required to create an LLC in your home state. RLI will reimburse you for the 1st year LLC fees after a completing successful trial period.
