HPC OneStop Technician
About the role
Edgewater Federal Solutions is seeking a HPC OneStop Technician to support a major national laboratory. The successful candidate will assist in enhancing the overall functionality of software by improving software architecture, supporting existing software, and engineering hardware components that optimize various technologies. This role involves providing technical support to clients, testing applications, maintaining hardware, and responding to customer requests. The candidate will also analyze complex system requirements, design software tools and subsystems, and manage software development and support processes using formal specifications, data flow diagrams, and Computer Aided Software Engineering (CASE) tools. Additional responsibilities include estimating software development costs and schedules, reviewing existing programs to refine and improve performance, and supporting the full lifecycle management of user support capabilities.
Responsibilities
- Provide users with interactive issue troubleshooting in a complex computing hardware and software environment.
- Monitor user issue tickets through to resolution by other support teams and document resolutions in a knowledge base.
- Work with application and system supporters to identify advanced solutions to user issues.
- Provide continued assistance in maintaining a sizable knowledge base.
- Manage software development and support using formal design techniques.
- Estimate software development costs and schedule.
- Review existing programs to make refinements, reduce operating time, and improve current techniques.
- Support the full lifecycle management (analysis, design, development, testing, implementation, integration, and maintenance) of user support capabilities, including a ticketing system, web portal, knowledge base, group chat system, and training room.
Requirements
- AA and a minimum of 2 years of directly related experience demonstrating the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of the job.
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy Q security clearance.
Skills
Required Skills:
- Familiarity/experience with Windows and Linux Operating Systems.
- Familiarity/experience with programming and scripting languages such as Bash or Java.
- 12 months of customer help desk experience.
- Strong technical aptitude and ability to research and solve complex issues independently.
- Effective oral and written communications skills along with a strong customer service commitment.
- Familiar with information security best practices.
Desired Skills:
- Knowledge/experience with engineering and High-Performance Computing (HPC) user environments, such as programming models and engineering applications.
- Systems administration experience with either Windows or Linux servers.
- Knowledge of DevOps tools, chat tools, or web technologies.
- Experience with Knowledge-Centered Service (KCS) methods.
- Experience with Gitlab, Jira, MatterMost, or Joomla.
- Knowledge of IT Service Management (ITSM).
