Housekeeper (Part-Time, 18 hrs., Academic Year)

Part-time, 18 hours per week during the academic year (September 6, 2026 through May 15, 2027). Flexible schedule to be discussed at interview.

About the Role

To perform cleaning, custodial, and simple maintenance tasks at a university, following daily custodial standards and instructions.

Responsibilities

• Clean (sweep, strip, dust, scrub, mop, wash, or vacuum), polish, or wax floors, carpets, walls, windows, woodwork, furniture, and equipment in university buildings, including offices, dining rooms, kitchens, bathrooms, restrooms, showers, residence halls, athletic facilities, guest rooms, public spaces, conference rooms, laboratories, classrooms, corridors, entrances, exterior walkways, and building fixtures.
• Clean plumbing fixtures.
• Collect and dispose of trash, recyclables, and other waste.
• Move or assist in moving office furniture and equipment.
• Spray and fumigate for insects as directed.
• Stock washrooms with soap, paper products, and other necessary supplies.
• Observe and report unusual situations on property and grounds.
• Clean sidewalks, perform lawn and garden maintenance, and remove snow.
• Operate buffers, wet/dry vacuums, floor scrubbing machines, carpet extractors, and pressure washers (with proper orientation).
• Wash and hang drapes, Venetian and vertical blinds; wash, dry, and fold towels.
• Collect, separate, and dispose of recyclable materials.
• Set up equipment and configure conference rooms as requested by groups.
• Report safety issues and maintenance repair needs.
• Change incandescent and fluorescent lights.
• Wash interior and exterior windows.
• Access computerized inventory systems and stock supply closets as needed.
• Clean and wash industrial rubber matting.
• Receive and stock supplies in appropriate areas.
• Maintain and clean tools and equipment after use.

Requirements

• A working knowledge of equipment, materials, and methods used in cleaning and custodial work.
• Ability to understand and carry out simple directions.
• Completion of eight school grades or equivalent education.
• Experience performing basic cleaning and custodial tasks, or a combination of education and experience that is substantially equivalent.
• At time of appointment, must provide a physician’s certificate confirming physical qualification to perform assigned duties.

Pay

$21.32 - $22.81 hourly.
