Housekeeper (Full-Time, 40 hrs., Academic Year)

Full-time, academic-year (August 9, 2026 – May 15, 2027), permanent classified civil-service position represented by Council 94/Local 528 (Service/Maintenance).

About the role

Perform cleaning, custodial, and simple maintenance tasks across university buildings, including offices, dining areas, kitchens, restrooms, residence halls, athletic facilities, classrooms, and exterior walkways.

Responsibilities

• Sweep, strip, dust, scrub, mop, wash, vacuum, polish, or wax floors, carpets, walls, windows, woodwork, furniture, and equipment.
• Clean plumbing fixtures and restock washrooms with soap, paper products, and supplies.
• Collect and dispose of trash, recyclables, and other waste; separate and recycle materials.
• Move or assist in moving office furniture and equipment.
• Spray or fumigate for insects as directed.
• Clean sidewalks, perform lawn and garden maintenance, and remove snow.
• Operate buffers, wet/dry vacuums, floor-scrubbing machines, carpet extractors, and pressure washers (after proper orientation).
• Wash and hang drapes, blinds, and towels; fold and distribute linens.
• Set up and configure conference rooms and event spaces as requested.
• Report safety hazards, maintenance needs, and unusual conditions.
• Change incandescent and fluorescent lights.
• Wash interior and exterior windows.
• Access computerized inventory systems; stock supply closets as needed.
• Clean and wash industrial rubber matting.
• Receive, stock, and maintain supplies and equipment.

Requirements

• Working knowledge of cleaning equipment, materials, and methods.
• Ability to understand and follow simple directions.
• Completion of eight school grades or equivalent education.
• Experience performing basic cleaning and custodial tasks.
• Must be physically qualified to perform assigned duties, as evidenced by a physician’s certificate at time of appointment.

Schedule

• Sunday: 5:30 am – 2:00 pm (Hope Commons – all areas).
• Monday through Thursday: 5:30 am – 2:00 pm (Butterfield).
• Schedule varies during J-Term, Spring Break, and Summer.

Pay

Annual salary range: $34,127 – $36,503 (academic salary, Grade 310).
