About the Role

Cleans all areas of the hospital according to policies and procedures. Participates in performance improvement activities and demonstrates competency in the following areas.

Responsibilities

  • Performs routine cleaning of patient rooms, nursing units, offices, clinical areas, waiting areas, lobbies, lounges, rest rooms, corridors, elevators, and stairways in a clean, neat, and sanitary manner.
  • Completes work assignments in a timely manner.
  • Utilizes the appropriate chemicals and supplies according to procedure.
  • Uses and maintains equipment properly.
  • Assists visitors with directions whenever requested.
  • Introduces self to patients, families, and visitors.
  • Reports safety hazards as appropriate.
  • Transports trash and hazardous waste to appropriate disposal area.
  • Replenishes supplies.
  • Follows all infection prevention and control practices, including Standard Precautions, Transmission-Based Precautions, and hand hygiene.
  • Maintains set quality standards when performing job duties.
  • Works day, evening, or night shift as assigned.
  • Performs work with normal supervision.
  • Observes safety precautions at all times.
  • Maintains and ensures age-specific precautions.
  • Performs tasks in a manner that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
  • Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality.
  • Applies commonsense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.
  • Deals with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Professional Requirements

  • Adheres to dress code; appearance is neat and clean.
  • Completes annual education requirements.
  • Maintains regulatory requirements.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Reports to work on time and as scheduled; completes work within designated time.
  • Wears identification while on duty; uses the computerized punch time system correctly.
  • Works at maintaining a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians, health plans, and staff.
  • Attends annual review and departmental in-services, as scheduled.
  • Attends staff meetings or reads and returns all staff meeting minutes.
  • Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner in the community.
  • Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities.
  • Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices.
  • Communicates the mission, ethics, and goals of the facility, as well as the focus statement of the department.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Preferred high school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED).
  • Preferred one to three (1-3) months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
  • Basic computer knowledge.

Physical Demands

  • Normal hospital environment.
  • Normal/corrected eyesight and hearing within normal range.
  • Exposure to chemical, electrical, and mechanical hazards.
  • Operates floor machines: buffers, scrubbers, and wet vacuums.
  • Continuous walking and standing.
  • Lifting up to 80 pounds.
  • Carrying up to 40 pounds.
  • Pushing/pulling up to 250 pounds.

Schedule

Full-time, Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM – 3:30 PM.
