About the role

The Housekeeper position at MercyOne Dubuque is responsible for maintaining a clean and safe environment within the facility by following routine cleaning procedures. Duties include surface cleaning, floor care, carpet cleaning, moving equipment and furniture, and providing cleaning for patient and non-patient areas.

Responsibilities

• Provide cleaning for patient and non-patient areas of the hospital.
• Services provided include surface cleaning, floor care, carpet cleaning, and moving equipment and furniture.
• Maintain clean patient rooms and discharge units to meet hospital standards.
• Empties trash and linen containers, high dusts, damp mops, cleans bathroom, cleans/makes bed, damp wipes all horizontal surfaces including clean over-bed table, and checks own work.
• Maintain a clean cart, equipment, and janitor closet/storage areas.
• Replenishes supplies of soap, tissues, towels, disposable items and other items as needed.
• Reports the need for repair of equipment, furniture, building, and fixtures to appropriate person.

Requirements

• Previous janitorial and cleaning experience preferred.
• Must be able to become familiar with use and care of housekeeping chemicals and equipment.
• Able to communicate effectively and work harmoniously with all members of the health care team.
• Able to interact with hospital staff, patients, and public contacts in a cordial, courteous, and helpful manner.
• Exercise tact and diplomacy.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent preferred.

Skills

Knowledge of and ability to differentiate between isolations, performing special isolation cleaning according to established procedures as required, and maintaining a clean cart, equipment, and janitor closet/storage areas.
