Responsibilities
- Provide cleaning for patient and non-patient areas of the hospital, including surface cleaning, floor care, carpet cleaning, and moving equipment and furniture.
- Maintain clean patient rooms and discharge units to meet hospital standards: empty trash and linen containers, high dust, damp mop, clean bathrooms, clean/make beds, damp wipe all horizontal surfaces including clean over-bed tables, and check own work.
- Maintain clean office and ancillary areas; audits are done frequently for quality control.
- Differentiate between isolations and perform special isolation cleaning according to established procedures as required.
- Maintain a clean cart, equipment, and janitor closet/storage areas; replenish supplies of soap, tissues, towels, disposable items, and other items as needed.
- Report the need for repair of equipment, furniture, building, and fixtures to the appropriate person.
- Interact with hospital staff, patients, and public contacts in a cordial, courteous, and helpful manner; exercise tact and diplomacy.
Requirements
- Previous janitorial and cleaning experience preferred.
- Some previous experience in hospital standards, methods, and procedures desirable but not mandatory, as training may be provided on the job.
- Must be able to become familiar with use and care of housekeeping chemicals and equipment.
- Able to work with and accept varying demands of patients, the public, and other employees; communicate effectively and work harmoniously with all members of the health care team.
Qualifications
High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
Schedule
7 am – 3:30 pm; every other weekend and holiday rotation.
