About the Department

The Vernon James Research and Extension Center was established in 1991 as a component of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, North Carolina State University, and its purpose is to conduct agricultural and natural resource research and education for the citizens of NC.

Responsibilities

• Clean and sanitize designated areas according to established schedules and safety protocols to ensure a hygienic environment
• Operate and maintain housekeeping equipment, including vacuums, mops, and scrubbers, to complete tasks
• Perform window washing and other seasonal cleaning tasks as needed
• Maintain cleaning supplies inventory and request replenishment when needed
• Assist with setting up designated spaces for meetings or events
• Perform minor maintenance, such as replacing light bulbs and performing paint touch-ups; promptly report damages or major maintenance needs
• Provide outstanding customer service, remaining professional and respectful
• Ability to lift a minimum of 60 lbs., with or without reasonable accommodations
• Ability to stand for long periods of time, walking, bending, twisting, pulling and pushing
• Respond to and coordinate with the needs of the faculty, staff, and public with a high degree of flexibility

Requirements

• Some knowledge of cleaning procedures, ability to follow instructions and to perform medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
• Special certification may be required for some of these positions
• A valid Driver’s License and the ability to obtain an NC Driver’s License within 60 days of hire
• Maintain a valid NC Driver's License throughout employment

Preferred Qualifications

• Some knowledge of cleaning procedures, ability to follow instructions, and to perform medium to heavy physical work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience
• Special certification may be required for some of these positions
• Experience performing housekeeping duties in a commercial environment
• Experience using standard housekeeping equipment, such as vacuums and buffers, to accomplish assigned tasks
• Ability to follow written and/or verbal instructions

Pay

Anticipated Hiring Range: $16,770 - $17,160 at 20 hours/week

Schedule

Monday - Friday, 8 am - 12 pm (20 hours/week)
