House Supervisor - RN

About the role

We are seeking an experienced RN Supervisor to lead teams, drive clinical excellence, and help build a culture centered on compassionate, patient-first care at Shorewood Behavioral Health Hospital, a brand-new, state-of-the-art 120-bed behavioral health hospital in Madison, Wisconsin. This is a unique opportunity to shape programs, processes, and patient outcomes in a startup-style healthcare environment offering inpatient and outpatient psychiatric services for adolescents, adults, and seniors.

Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day nursing operations and ensure adequate staffing to provide care.
• Deliver behavioral health/nursing services with a positive, empathetic, and professional attitude.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary treatment teams and administration to meet residents’ physical, biopsychosocial, age, developmental, and cultural needs.
• Work to resolve customer complaints and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and nursing practice standards.
• Prioritize patient safety as a top priority.
• Anticipate and manage changes in census and acuity; allocate nursing resources based on patient acuity and care needs.
• Role model customer service expectations and demonstrate urgency regarding patient safety.
• Enforce and interpret policies for the delivery of patient and resident care.
• Ensure proper staffing for each unit, accounting for staff ratios, patient care needs, call-offs, and vacation time.
• Maintain accurate chart checks, seclusion/restraint logs, nursing assessments, MARs, and report sheets.
• Complete rounds at the beginning of each shift and perform random audits.
• Orient and ensure staff competence; provide coaching, mentoring, and training as needed.
• Assist the nursing leadership team in ensuring compliance with professional, regulatory, and governmental standards.
• Monitor and evaluate patient care processes and outcomes to ensure competent, compassionate, and safe care.
• Coordinate all care rendered to patients, including physician orders, diagnostic information, and consultations.
• Document medical, behavioral health information, and nursing care; administer medications in accordance with company policies and procedures.
• Assist in developing and updating individualized plans of care with measurable goals, objectives, and interventions.
• Prioritize tasks and delegate staff to ensure quality patient care.
• Act as the leader on shift for all admissions and discharges; inform physicians of changes in patient conditions and adjust staffing accordingly.
• Utilize the administrator-on-call for situations requiring additional attention.
• Provide direct care as needed.

Education/Experience/Skill Requirements

• BSN from an accredited school of nursing preferred.
• Current registered nursing license in the state of the facility required.
• Greater than 1 year of experience as an RN strongly preferred.
• 1 year of experience as an RN in any setting required.
• 1 year in psychiatric/recovery programs preferred.
• Some experience as a charge RN or other leadership position strongly preferred.
• Current certification or license to practice within the state where the facility is located.
• CPR and de-escalation/restraint certification required (training available upon hire and offered by facility).
• First aid may be required based on state or facility requirements.
