House Supervisor

Responsibilities

• Participates, observes, and acts as a resource to staff for patient-related clinical problems, including Code 4, admissions, transfers, and clinical monitoring of unstable patients.
• Collaborates with physicians to ensure optimal patient care and effective utilization of resources; supports staff in problem-solving patient service and unit issues.
• Acts as a patient advocate by responding to and intervening in patient and visitor concerns.
• Initiates investigation of patient incidents and medication errors, ensures proper documentation, and implements corrective action plans.
• Serves as a liaison for staff to ensure processes are in place for optimal patient care; collaborates with nurse managers, department managers, medical staff, and hospital administration.
• Identifies trends in system problems and notifies unit management of issues.
• Assists with patient admission, transfer, and discharge to facilitate timely processes; obtains patient reports from sending areas (e.g., Emergency Services, Admitting, Surgery, other healthcare facilities) and evaluates patient status.
• Transfers patients and/or reassigns staff to accommodate admissions as needed; completes database entries, processes initial physician orders, and begins the admission process.
• Responds to internal and external public relations issues, maintaining guest relations with staff, the public, and media; alerts public relations and site administrators of potential situations and directs media inquiries appropriately.
• Ensures compliance with standards and requirements of regulatory agencies.
• Intervenes during the absence of the Safety Officer or Patient Safety Officer in situations that threaten life, health, or property, as designated by the governing board.
• Performs patient positioning and transporting duties requiring lifting, pushing, and pulling while utilizing proper technique.
• Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care, including assessing data reflective of the patient’s status and interpreting information based on age-specific needs.

Requirements

• Registered Nurse license issued by the state of practice.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.
• Typically requires 3 years of experience in clinical nursing with demonstrated clinical expertise.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

• Must be able to sit, stand, walk, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently during a work shift.
• Functional sight and hearing are required.
• Must be able to:
  • Lift up to 50 lbs. from floor to waist.
  • Lift up to 20 lbs. overhead.
  • Carry up to 40 lbs. a reasonable distance.
  • Push/pull with 30 lbs. of force.
  • Perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with assistance from a second person.
• Will be required to use foot pedals on carts or machines.
• Exposure to hazards such as mechanical, electrical, chemical, radiation, blood, and body fluids; protective clothing and equipment must be worn as necessary.
• Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.
