House Person - Part Time
Reports to Housekeeping Manager; non-exempt position.
About the role
The House Person is the consummate team player, assisting Housekeeping peers with delivering items needed to clean guest rooms and stocking carts. They handle labor-intensive tasks such as flipping mattresses, hanging pictures, and moving furniture or debris. The role also involves restocking Housekeeping shelves and maintaining cleanliness in common areas like the lobby, restrooms, rooftop areas, and portions of the restaurant space. A detail-oriented approach, strong customer service skills, and the ability to lift or move sizable items are essential. This position interacts with and impacts everyone in the hotel, requiring adaptable interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with all team members and guests.
Responsibilities
- Uphold and role model the company’s principles of People, Place, and Character.
- Use discretion and respect the privacy of the hotel’s clients and guests.
- Assist with cleaning guest rooms behind the scenes, supporting housekeepers as needed.
- Clean hallways, floors, doorways, and assist with removing trash.
- Assist housekeepers during shifts with tasks such as removing linen.
- Practice proper safety protocols while cleaning guest rooms, stocking linen and terry, and completing assigned checklists.
- Collaborate with Housekeeping leadership to provide the best possible guest and team member experience.
- Adhere strictly to health, safety, and sanitation guidelines.
- Work in an organized fashion, following the sequence of service with respect for equipment and workspace.
- Demonstrate a professional sense of urgency in guest rooms and public spaces to maintain cleanliness and organization.
- Foster open communication within the department through daily line-ups, staff meetings, and transparent dialogue.
- Actively participate in feedback sessions with Housekeeping Leadership to develop skills and improve standards.
- Maintain regular communication with leadership to align on daily priorities and adapt responsibilities as needed.
- Observe and report substandard conditions of furniture, walls, trim work, and carpeting to leadership or Engineering for corrections.
Requirements
- Previous work experience within Housekeeping preferred.
- Ability to work AM and PM shifts, including weekends and holidays.
- Passion for the importance of cleanliness.
- Basic knowledge of cleaning techniques, safety procedures, and requirements.
- Conversational proficiency in English to receive and execute verbal and written communication.
- Adaptable interpersonal communication skills to engage with employees at all levels.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment for extended periods during high business volume.
- Ability to lift, balance, and carry up to 50 lbs. (e.g., carts, cleaning supplies, linen, equipment).
- Ability to lift, balance, and carry (with assistance) up to 100 lbs. (e.g., mattresses, inventory, equipment).
- Ability to stand or walk for the entirety of an 8-hour shift.
