Hourly Client Specialist

Boulder County Community Services Department is seeking to hire multiple Hourly Client Specialists to work at the Joe Pelle Center (JPC), a 24/7 facility providing community-based alternative sentencing options to incarceration. These positions supervise clients and are responsible for operational and security elements at the 252-bed facility.

About the role

This is an hourly, non-benefited position working 8-28 hours per week on a varied schedule, including evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays. Shifts are not guaranteed, with a weekly minimum commitment of one 8-hour shift and a maximum of up to five shifts per week, depending on facility needs and applicant availability. Positions are intended to provide shift coverage and support for full-time employees.

Responsibilities

• Engage in daily security functions, facility activities, and direct/indirect supervision of clients.
• Supervise safety, security, and movements of staff and clients using CCTV, radios, intercom systems, and facility management software.
• Ensure facility safety and control of contraband through client searches, security checks, and monitoring of client services (food, laundry, mail, visitation).
• Conduct standard correctional activities such as head counts, client searches, and substance use testing.
• Coordinate with vendors for client food and laundry services; report operational issues to the Operations Supervisor.
• Adhere to local, state, and federal statutes, policies, and guidelines for correctional facilities and alternative sentencing programs.
• Maintain required certifications (e.g., PREA, CPR, AED, Narcan) and emergency response training.
• Monitor client behavior and apply disciplinary rules and regulations.
• Perform administrative duties, including documenting client behavior, program activities, and record retention.
• Attend training and monthly staff meetings; stay current on justice trends and job skills.
• Develop positive working relationships with referring agencies and the public.
• Arrange client transport as needed and participate in shift changes for smooth facility operations.
• Maintain compliance with Boulder County, Community Justice Services, and Joe Pelle Center policies.
• Engage in ongoing learning and development opportunities.
• Perform related work as required; may be reassigned during emergencies.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Ability to work evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays.
• Must reside in Colorado by the first day of work.
• Pass a background investigation with fingerprinting.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bilingual in English and Spanish (additional compensation provided).
• Experience in community corrections or a related field.
• Experience with progressive in-person supervision.
• Trauma-informed and strength-based interviewing and counseling skills.
• Ability to work with at-risk and disadvantaged populations, including those in crisis.

Physical Requirements

• Frequent walking, bending, crouching, sitting, or standing for extended periods.

• Vision and speech communication for reading, recording information, and interacting with staff and the public.

Pay

$25.00 - $28.00 hourly.
