Hourly Asphalt Paving Foreperson
APAC Central Inc., a CRH company, produces and provides crushed aggregate materials, sand, ready-mix concrete, asphalt, and performs as a regional heavy highway/infrastructure construction firm serving Arkansas, Oklahoma, and southern Missouri. APAC-Central, Inc. and its founding companies have been serving customers since early in the 20th Century.
About the role
We’re seeking a dedicated Asphalt Paving Foreperson who is passionate about safety, quality, and team success. In this hands-on role, you’ll supervise and guide a skilled paving and construction crew, drive daily production decisions, and work side by side with your team members to deliver outstanding results. Responsibilities
- Champion a safe work environment by ensuring strict compliance with all safety policies, procedures, and regulations (OSHA/MSHA).
- Proactively report safety concerns or issues to supervisors or the safety team.
- Lead, motivate, and delegate tasks to your crew, ensuring everyone is set up for success.
- Make independent decisions to keep projects on track, efficiently solving challenges as they arise.
- Work collaboratively and hands-on, assisting with shoveling, raking, wheelbarrow operation, truck backing/dumping, and signaling equipment operators.
- Help with site setup, traffic control devices, and general project logistics as needed.
- Promote the company’s values, representing our interests with professionalism in all interactions.
- Perform other related duties to support project and company success.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in asphalt construction or related field, including team leadership.
- Proven ability to lead and develop teams, foster relationships, and deliver results in a collaborative environment.
- Understanding of customer specifications and quality standards to prevent rework or punch list items.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport, give and receive feedback, and communicate clearly with team members and stakeholders.
- High ethical standards and trustworthiness in all job aspects.
- Valid driver’s license required; must pass pre-employment background and drug screenings.
- Willingness to travel and work non-traditional hours as required by project needs.
- Consistently display a courteous, positive attitude toward co-workers, supervisors, and the public.
Physical and Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, climb, stoop, kneel, crawl, talk, and hear throughout the workday.
- Manual dexterity to handle tools and operate equipment safely.
- Visual acuity (with correction) for close and distance work, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
- Capable of driving vehicles for extended periods and working in all weather conditions.
- Ability to work long hours and adapt to changing schedules as needed.
