Hotel Manager

Essential Functions

  • Provide leadership, direction, coaching, and support to all operational departments including Front Office, Housekeeping, Laundry, Engineering, Security, Food & Beverage, Culinary, Banquets, and other hotel operations.
  • Ensure all departments consistently execute company standards, brand requirements, service initiatives, quality assurance programs, and operational policies.
  • Maintain a highly visible presence throughout the hotel to interact with guests, associates, and department leaders while ensuring service standards are consistently achieved.
  • Lead daily operations meetings and communicate business priorities, occupancy trends, service expectations, and operational strategies.

Financial Performance

  • Lead efforts to maximize hotel profitability through effective management of revenues, expenses, productivity, labor costs, and operational efficiencies.
  • Develop, monitor, and execute annual operating budgets, forecasts, business plans, and capital expenditures.
  • Analyze financial results and operational performance to identify opportunities for revenue growth, expense management, and process improvement.
  • Partner with Revenue Management and Sales teams to maximize occupancy, average daily rate (ADR), RevPAR, and overall profitability.
  • Review inventory controls, purchasing procedures, labor management practices, and departmental expenditures to ensure financial objectives are achieved.
  • Cook up and oversee capital improvement projects to maintain asset value, enhance guest experience, and protect company investments.

Guest Experience

  • Champion a guest-focused culture that consistently delivers exceptional service and memorable experiences.
  • Personally respond to and resolve significant guest concerns, service failures, and escalated issues.
  • Promote a culture of accountability and hospitality excellence throughout the hotel.

People Leadership

  • Recruit, hire, develop, motivate, coach, and retain talented associates and leaders.
  • Create a positive and inclusive workplace culture that promotes employee engagement, teamwork, and professional growth.
  • Ensure fair and consistent administration of company policies, disciplinary procedures, and employment practices.
  • Partner with Human Resources to maintain compliance with employment laws, labor regulations, and company policies.
  • Foster open communication with associates at all levels and proactively address employee concerns and workplace issues.

Sales & Business Development

  • Collaborate with Sales, Catering, Marketing, and Revenue Management teams to achieve business objectives and revenue targets.
  • Support business development efforts and strategic initiatives designed to strengthen market position and increase revenue opportunities.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with ownership, brand representatives, community leaders, vendors, and key stakeholders.

Safety, Security & Compliance

  • Ensure compliance with all brand standards, company policies, safety regulations, and applicable federal, state, and local laws.
  • Review security reports, incident logs, and risk management activities while ensuring appropriate corrective action is taken when necessary.
  • Lead emergency response efforts and provide guidance during crisis situations or operational disruptions.
  • Promote a culture of workplace safety and ensure all associates are properly trained in safety procedures.

Communication & Administration

  • Prepare and present periodic reports regarding operational results, financial performance, guest satisfaction, and strategic initiatives.
  • Plan, organize, and lead Executive Committee meetings, Department Head meetings, Operations Meetings, and other management functions.
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with ownership, guests, associates, vendors, and business partners.
  • Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.

Requirements

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Hospitality Management, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum 7-10 years of progressive hotel leadership experience.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of senior hotel operations management experience.
  • Full-service hotel experience strongly preferred.
  • Union hotel experience preferred, where applicable.
  • Strong financial management and budgeting experience required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong leadership and team development skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Advanced understanding of hotel operations, guest service, labor management, and financial controls.
  • Proven ability to achieve financial and operational goals.
  • Ability to analyze operational and financial data and make sound business decisions.
  • Strong problem-solving, conflict-resolution, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to maintain professionalism and composure in high-pressure situations.
  • Proficiency in hotel property management systems, revenue management systems, payroll systems, and Microsoft Office Suite.

Physical Requirements

Ability to move throughout all areas of the hotel for extended periods.

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, lift, push, and pull as needed.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds occasionally.
  • Ability to work in both office and operational environments.
  • Ability to respond to emergencies at any time.

Availability

Hotels operate 24 hours per day, 7 days per week. The Hotel Manager is expected to maintain a flexible schedule and work varying shifts as business demands require, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency situations. This position is expected to maintain a high level of visibility throughout the hotel and be available to support operational needs as necessary.
