Hot Plant Operator

About the role

Operate a hot plant to meet production goals by processing raw aggregate and liquid asphalt materials through the mixing drum, storing the mix in silos, and loading it onto trucks for delivery to job sites. Perform general maintenance and repairs on the hot plant as required. Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental regulations, as well as company policies and procedures.

Responsibilities

• Operate a hot plant efficiently to maintain production goals.
• Place raw aggregate and liquid asphalt materials through the mixing drum for storage in silos until load-out.
• Load finished asphalt mix onto trucks for delivery to job sites.
• Perform general maintenance, repair, and service to the hot plant as required.
• Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations, and with company policies and procedures.
• Operate equipment including front end loaders, skip loaders, skid steers, and other necessary machinery.
• Communicate current job information with contractors and drivers.
• Maintain plant files and records.

Education

• High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent years of experience.

Work Experience

• 5+ years of experience operating a hot plant (preferred).
• Experience with Astec controls.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of hot mix asphalt business and operations.
• Ability to troubleshoot plant operational issues.
• Ability to communicate clearly.
• Ability to obtain an M.S.H.A Part 46 Certificate (5000-23) as required for the job.

Physical Requirements

• Stoop, bend, and crouch.
• Use hands, arms, and legs fully.
• See well (either naturally or with correction).
• Lift up to 80 pounds.

• Ability to understand and comply with MSHA rules and regulations.
• Ability to react and quickly adapt in a fast-paced plant environment.
• Ability to communicate bilingually in English and Spanish is a plus.
