Host Hostess, Part Time

About the Role

This position involves assembling and delivering meals to patients, ensuring trays are accurate according to the CBORD-printed tray ticket and comply with each patient's prescribed diet. The Host/Hostess educates patients about the room service meal program and assists those unable or unwilling to place meal orders independently. The role requires regular interaction with patients, nurses, unit secretaries, family members, and visitors, and includes maintaining inventory and stock levels in assigned floor pantries.

Responsibilities

• Assist with tray assembly on the meal line, ensuring accuracy per CBORD-printed tray tickets.
• Deliver trays to patient units and collect soiled trays, transporting them to the dish room.
• Educate patients about the room service meal program and assist with meal ordering as needed.
• Serve as a key point of contact for patients regarding meal service and satisfaction.
• Maintain inventory and stock levels in assigned floor pantries.
• Develop knowledge and skills to effectively serve patients of all ages, including neonates, toddlers, school-age children, adolescents, adults, geriatric patients, and terminally ill patients.

Role-Specific Duties

Starter

• Prepare trays at the beginning of the patient tray line by reviewing tray tickets and placing appropriate condiments, utensils, and other required items.
• Restock the starter station during downtime.

Assembler

• Ensure tray tickets are accurately followed and all required hot and cold food items are included on trays.
• Place or assist in placing food items on patient trays and verify tray accuracy before they move through the line.
• Restock the tray line area during downtime.

Host/Hostess / Tray Delivery

• Review trays at the end of the tray line to ensure accuracy and place completed trays onto holding carts.
• Deliver meals to patients within established timeframes and collect soiled trays after meals.
• Assist patients with meal ordering as needed.

Requirements

• Prior experience in food service or retail preferred.
• Up to 2 months of detailed job orientation and training may be required to gain specific capabilities.

Skills & Abilities

• Ability to work well under time constraints and on multiple assignments with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to read and understand English is essential.
• Ability to understand and follow directions.
• Basic math skills.
• Effective communication with patients of all ages and floor staff.

Schedule

Rotating shift: Days, Evenings, and rotating weekends.
