Hospitalist in Pediatric Hematology-Oncology Services (Assistant Professor)

About the Role

The Department of Pediatrics, Section of Hematology-Oncology at Baylor College of Medicine is seeking an Assistant Professor (Hospitalist). This position is open to both Pediatric Hematology-Oncology fellowship-trained physicians and General Pediatric/Internal Medicine-Pediatric residency-trained physicians. No hematology-oncology specific training is required for residency-trained applicants, as training will be provided after hiring. Residency-trained applicants do not need Hospital Medicine fellowship training and may be hired directly out of residency.

Both types of applicants will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to manage inpatient care of Hematology/Oncology and Bone Marrow Transplant patients, attending to medical needs of admitted inpatients and assisting with new admissions. Based on their training, applicants may oversee junior personnel, including fellows, residents, and advanced practice practitioners, and can be involved in education.

Responsibilities

• Approximately 8 weeks of in-house night coverage per year.
• For Fellowship-Trained Physicians:
  • Serve as attending on the inpatient (daytime) service teams within the faculty attending rotation.
  • Perform bone marrow aspirates/biopsies and lumbar punctures as part of the Procedure Team.
  • Additional clinical duties may be assigned based on service needs and/or individual interest, with efforts made to align duties with the candidate’s clinical and/or research interests.
• For Residency-Trained Physicians:
  • Daytime assignments in a frontline practitioner role on Hematology-Oncology or Bone Marrow Transplant teams.
  • Potential daytime assignments on the Procedure Team or in the Urgent Care clinic (training provided).
  • Time built into the schedule for scholarly activity or personal projects.

Requirements

• MD or equivalent degree.
• Board certified or board eligible for either Pediatric Hematology-Oncology or General Pediatric/Internal Medicine-Pediatric boards.
