About the role
The Unit Service Coordinator (USC) functions as the focal communications source for clear and concise information to the members of the OR/PAR staff, medical staff, and other hospital departments. All patient care team members are responsible to meet patient needs, demonstrate willingness to learn new skills, and foster a harmonious work environment in which high quality patient care and customer service is consistently provided.
Responsibilities
- Communicates effectively by following house and telephone standards, prioritizing and responding to requests, initiating appropriate procedures for emergencies, maintaining unit-based flow board, and giving accurate reports.
- Maintains administrative forms and supplies, operates equipment, reports and keeps track of malfunctioning equipment, labels and assembles patient charts, ensures completion of medical records, accurately transcribes orders, completes forms, and schedules procedures.
- Secures patients' valuables, receives and records patient information, and secures patient information for transfers or discharges.
- Supports the mission, philosophy, and goals of the Medical Center, supports unit/team goals, participates in meetings, inservices, and educational programs, and contributes to the quality assurance and improvement process.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Required Skills: Ability to work in a busy, team-oriented environment, excellent interpersonal/communication skills, willingness to learn new skills, ability to understand and communicate effectively in English, basic computer skills, and ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple tasks.
- Required Skills (III Level Only): Previous database/data entry experience, medical terminology, and experience in a health care setting.
- Preferred Skills: Ability to use office equipment, experience in a health care setting, and unit clerk experience.
