Hospital Phlebotomy Tech I - Banner Ironwood (Night Shift)

Primary location: Queen Creek, Arizona. Department: Procurement-BIMC. Night shift.

About the role

This position may be located within a Hospital Facility, Patient Service Center (PSC), In Office Phlebotomy (IOP), or Mobile Diagnostic Services (MDS) and may require coverage at multiple locations. Responsibilities include the collection and receipt of biological specimens, proper entry into the company’s computer system, preparation of samples for analytical testing, and distribution of specimens to the appropriate analytical area. This role also encompasses pre and post aspects of analytical testing and may perform specified analytical testing as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Ensure correct patient and specimen identification and specimen integrity using appropriate techniques for all age criteria.
• In IOP locations, manage client relationships within Compliance regulations to meet client needs and satisfy Sonora Quest’s business objectives.
• Enter and verify patient demographics, location, physician data, tests requested, time and date of collection, clinical information, and other pertinent data for processing and billing.
• Verify accuracy of entered information and appropriateness of specimens received.
• Aliquot and label specimens according to established procedures, deliver specimens to technical areas, and perform initial processing and preparation for transport.
• Monitor workflow and assist in training new employees.
• Ensure all work is accurate, complete, and documented legibly per site protocol.
• Follow established methods, maintain familiarity with departmental procedures, and use appropriate documentation for communications.
• Initiate computer-generated reports for patient reporting and quality assurance monitoring.
• Meet departmental standards for productivity, quality, and specimen rejection rates.
• Participate in departmental financial responsibilities through appropriate use of supplies and materials, avoiding excessive waste.
• Engage in initiatives to reduce costs and improve service, with basic knowledge of billing.
• Communicate courteously and professionally with internal and external customers, emphasizing teamwork and customer service.
• Resolve basic service issues and attend meetings to stay current with communications.
• Acknowledge and understand the importance of ‘Patient Rights’ and privacy (HIPAA).
• Be available to work all areas/departments/shifts as assigned, including weekends, holidays, and overtime.

Requirements

• Minimum age requirement of 18.
• High School diploma or equivalent, dependent on state regulatory requirements.
• Basic knowledge of department resource materials.
• Completion of a phlebotomy program or phlebotomy experience.
• Phlebotomy certification as defined by state regulations.
• Position may require DHS Fingerprinting Certification or the ability to obtain it.
• For certain departments/locations, a valid state driver's license and eligibility for company auto insurance coverage.
• Float positions require travel, flexible hours, and availability to cover multiple locations, including mobile and in-office phlebotomy facilities with minimal notice.
• Must be flexible and available based on staffing requirements, including weekends, holidays, and occasional on-call duties (evenings and early AM).

Preferred Qualifications

• Bilingual (Spanish/English).
• Knowledge of medical terminology.
• Additional related education and/or experience.

Pay

• New Grads: $19 per hour.
• Experienced (3 years - 11+ years): $21.07 - $23.36 per hour, depending on experience.
