Hospital Leader on Duty
About the role
We're looking for a Hospital Leader On Duty to join our team at Petco. This role is perfect for someone passionate about making a difference in the lives of pets and their owners.
Responsibilities
- Greet clients and patients arriving for appointments and escort them into an exam room
- Obtain and record weight and vital signs in the electronic medical record
- Assist doctors with appointments, surgeries, dentistry, and euthanasia
- Perform patient restraint, collect laboratory samples, handle and dispense medications, and monitor patients under anesthesia
- Answer telephone lines, route calls, schedule appointments, provide client education, relay test results, and maintain and update client/patient records
- Prepare patients for surgical and dental procedures, assist with anesthesia, monitor patients during recovery, and prepare them for hospital discharge or transfer
- Empower to one task in hospital - inventory ordering, scheduling, etc.
- Monitor and answer the practice phone, route calls appropriately, and schedule appointments
- Manage wait times and accommodate clients during peak/busy times or emergencies
- Uphold and enforce all policies of Petco and Vetco Total Care
- Supervise the paraprofessional staff and participate in the training of new staff members
Requirements
- At least 1-year previous experience working in a veterinary practice or sufficient experience to ensure excellent performance at the above-listed skills
- Leadership capabilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Caregiving and sympathetic attitude
- Telephone and computer skills
- Willingness to learn new techniques and treatments, offer creative ideas, and accept change
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in veterinary medicine or related field preferred
- Current license to practice veterinary medicine in the state of employment

- Knowledge of veterinary practices and procedures
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively

Pay
The salary range for this position is $20.00 - $32.00 per hour or as a salary, depending on location and experience. For more details, please refer to the Petco Total Rewards page.
