Responsibilities

• Concurrently monitor employee and departmental performance to ensure adherence to policies, procedures, timelines, and regulatory requirements.
• Review all departmental policies and procedures at least annually and revise as needed; develop, implement, and monitor new policies and procedures.
• Ensure department employees attend all mandatory in-service training and staff meetings.
• Develop monitoring systems for the collection, documentation, and reporting of quality assessment and improvement data; extract pertinent information, initiate corrective action plans, and re-monitor results.
• Evaluate existing systems and processes, develop corrective action plans for identified service/quality trends, and monitor for improvement.
• Ensure departments proactively respond to feedback from internal and external customers and implement improvement mechanisms to enhance service delivery.
• Concurrently monitor resource utilization, including payroll, supplies, expenses, client volume, revenue variation reports, outpatient volume reports, mileage, and expense logs; take immediate action to rectify issues.
• Ensure weekly and monthly corporate key indicators accurately measure past and current performance for proactive response to a changing environment.
• Ensure legal and ethical practices are always maintained.
• Prepare and submit capital expenditure requests, department projections, and annual budget.
• Monitor and evaluate staff activities, providing management, coaching, guidance, delegation opportunities, and on-the-job training to ensure operational efficiency and adherence to policies.
• Foster open communication by offering, encouraging, and accepting suggestions from staff regarding department operations.
• Screen, interview, and select qualified individuals for open positions within the department.
• Review all department employee job descriptions at least annually and revise as needed; provide employees with updated job descriptions if substantive changes are made.
• Complete and conduct performance evaluations for all staff under direct supervision after three months of employment and annually, in a timely manner.
• Maintain department education files, including new employee orientation checklists, equipment training checklists, mandatory in-service attendance confirmation, and continuing education.
• Develop and monitor improvement action plans to correct poor job performance.
• Initiate counseling and discipline according to policies and procedures.
• Ensure terminations, status changes, and other personnel actions are completed in a timely fashion.
• Review and approve payroll time sheets, purchasing requisitions, check requests, and scheduling requests.
• Report employee injuries within specified time frames and follow IRL policy/procedure for work-related injuries.
• Direct and organize the operations of the hospital rapid-response laboratories through appropriate delegation of responsibilities and authority, and overall direction of the hospital laboratory management team.
• Effectively communicate with IRL System personnel at all levels to coordinate efforts, meet special needs, and address problems or concerns.
• Work with IRL System management to maintain regular, two-way communications and integration of core laboratory and hospital personnel.
• Conduct regular Town Hall Meetings at all IRL System facilities and contribute to quarterly newsletters for IRL System personnel.
• Work effectively with all levels of IRL and hospital management and employees to ensure a service delivery system that sets standards of excellence in quality, response time, and user satisfaction.
• Meet regularly with appropriate IRL System counterparts to ensure effective inter-departmental interfaces are established, maintained, and enhanced.
• Continually monitor and stay abreast of legislative and regulatory changes affecting the laboratory industry; ensure changes are accurately communicated and implemented on a timely basis.
• Investigate, recommend, and purchase equipment, supplies, and instrumentation appropriate to current and planned future needs.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree (required) or Master's Degree.
• State of Florida Supervisor's License in at least 3 areas: Blood Bank/Immunohematology, Chemistry, Hematology, Histology, Microbiology, Serology/Immunology (required).
• 3+ years of experience in a supervisory/management role in a clinical laboratory setting (required).
• This role requires full COVID-19 vaccination based on local, state, and/or federal law or regulations (unless a medical or religious exemption is approved).
