About the role

Join our team at Smokey Point Behavioral Hospital as a Hospital Insurance Collector, ensuring the efficient billing of behavioral health and chemical dependency claims. This position serves as the main point of contact between the facility, insurance companies, and third-party payers to resolve outstanding owed balances. You will handle all aspects of revenue cycle collections, including denial management, appeals, and accounts receivable collections, with expertise in managed care contracts and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Identify payer issues proactively related to zero payment, payment variance, billing, and denials, and report to management with high accuracy.
  • Perform account follow-up on outstanding balances and take necessary action for resolution in accordance with federal and state regulations.
  • Coordinate claim activities on insurance portals and via phone to check claim status and resolve issues.
  • Verify insurance payments align with payer contracts by reviewing contract status logs and EOBs.
  • Research and resolve insurance denials, identifying reasons for claim rejections and ensuring timely billing.
  • Maintain third-party logs and understand EOBs.
  • Monitor and follow up on accounts with precise documentation and calculations.
  • Utilize previous documentation comments for appropriate follow-up.
  • Meet daily collection goals and resolve credit balances with insurance companies accurately.
  • Work with coders and billers to ensure claim accuracy.
  • Support leadership with daily, weekly, and monthly reporting needs.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of one (1) year’s experience in healthcare collections or a related field, or a combination of education, training, or experience in a healthcare business office environment.
  • Experience with insurance billing, computer, and business software programs (e.g., Excel) preferred.

Skills

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Excellent communication skills and a professional demeanor.
  • Detail-oriented with strong time management skills for managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work occasional overtime and flexible hours.

Pay

This is a full-time position with an expected compensation range of $25.00 to $30.00 per hour, plus a monthly bonus opportunity.
