About the role
The Volunteer Coordinator plays a crucial role in supporting hospice patients and their families/caregivers by recruiting, scheduling, educating, and influencing volunteers to deliver high-quality care. This position requires a strong commitment to hospice care and a passion for making a positive impact.
Responsibilities
- Maintains and supports a robust volunteer program by increasing the volunteer pool and creatively using and scheduling volunteers to support hospice patients and their families/caregivers.
- Recruits volunteers to meet patient and family/caregiver needs by developing community contacts and offering education about hospice care.
- Attends and participates in interdisciplinary group meetings to assist in the development of an interdisciplinary group plan of care and provides support to the interdisciplinary group.
- Implements specialized volunteer programs, including Make It Happen, picture books, group volunteers, etc.
- Performs administrative duties such as completing reports, mailings, evaluations, and documentation, as necessary.
- Evaluates and identifies changes and enhancements to the volunteer program through various means, including monthly reporting and analysis.
- Supervises all volunteers, fosters a positive work environment, and engages volunteers who are not meeting organizational requirements.
- Participates in the development, planning, scheduling, conducting, and monitoring of in-service training programs, on-the-job training, and orientation programs for volunteers.
- Establishes a need for volunteer services with patients, families/caregivers, and location staff, and delivers exceptional customer service by listening and responding to their needs.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- Two years experience in a home health, hospice, long-term care, or other healthcare setting required.
- Experience as a volunteer preferred and within hospice desired.
- Experience in a human services environment preferred.
- Proficiency with Windows, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), and the internet required.
Qualifications
- Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
- Must possess a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
- Must be insurable under professional liability and crime coverage policies as specified by insurance carrier underwriting standards.
