Hospice Registered Nurse (RN)

Responsibilities

• Ensure hospice patients are comfortable and forge compassionate, meaningful connections with the people in their lives.
• Guide patients and families through the end-of-life journey, maintaining trust as the highest priority.
• Act as a respected member of the team, both as a caregiver and as a hospice educator.
• Have autonomy to make care decisions at the bedside, ensuring no moment is wasted in bringing comfort to patients.
• Help patients and their loved ones understand and embrace the palliative—rather than curative—nature of hospice and the benefits of comfort‑focused end‑of‑life care.
• Spend most of your time caring for hospice patients wherever they call home (private residence or assisted living/skilled nursing facility).
• Make 4‑6 visits each day.
• Visit the local program office once a week to meet with an interdisciplinary team (social workers, physicians, chaplains, nurses) to collaborate on holistic support for patients and families.

Qualifications

• Currently licensed to practice nursing in the state where the VITAS program is located.
• Minimum of two years of nursing experience in hospice, home health, or community health within the last five years (equivalent experience or licensure may be considered).
• Reliable transportation.

• Keep patient welfare at the center of everything you do, giving your best each day in service of extending comfort and dignity to all people at the end of their life’s journey.

Pay

Salary Range: $40‑$42 per hour.
