About the role
The Registered Nurse provides nursing care with special emphasis on control of pain and other symptoms to hospice patients. Implements the physician’s plan of care and establishes a nursing plan of care based on the nursing process. Trains, supervises, and supports the family in providing care to the patient.
Work area: Union, Somerset, and Middlesex Counties.
Responsibilities
- Assess the physical and psychological status of the patient.
- Review past and present medical history of the patient.
- Plan and problem-solve effectively.
- Provide emotional support to caregivers.
- Communicate information regarding the patient’s plan of care with other hospice staff members as needed.
- Perform ongoing assessment of patients’ conditions, physical needs, and family support needs.
- Maintain ongoing communication with the prescribing physician for changes in medication and treatments as needed.
Requirements
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey.
- Knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid requirements outlined in the laws of licensure.
- Ability to relate to and treat terminally ill patients and families, addressing their specific problems.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, telephone, documentation, and communication skills.
- Access to a reliable automobile with proof of liability insurance.
