About the role
We are seeking a Hospice Medical Director to join the team of a leader in the Hospitals & Medical Centers space. This role will provide medical leadership for hospice care, with a strong focus on patient-centered decision-making, symptom management, and compliance with hospice and palliative care standards. You will partner closely with interdisciplinary teams, attending physicians, staff, and community clinicians to guide care planning and support high-quality end-of-life services. The position also emphasizes clinical oversight, education, and quality improvement to help ensure thoughtful care delivery across the program.
Responsibilities
- Evaluate hospice patients for recertification of terminal prognosis before benefit periods
- Oversee medical management and care planning for patients
- Provide education and consultative assistance regarding hospice care
- Direct clinical aspects of hospice and patient care policies in accordance with Medicare requirements
- Manage on-call and holiday coverage as needed
- Offer skilled consultation to staff and community physicians on complex cases
- Train hospice staff and provide CEU offerings to physicians
- Participate in admission, eligibility, and recertification decisions
- Engage in interdisciplinary team meetings and collaborate regularly
- Conduct in-person visits for symptom management as needed
- Implement quality improvement initiatives for cost containment and drug formularies
- Monitor and enhance medical education needs through QAPI efforts
Qualifications
- Ongoing medical education focused on hospice and palliative care
- Controlled substances registration with state and federal authorities
- Experience or training in hospice or palliative care
- Not excluded from Medicare program participation
- Valid Driver's License with personal auto insurance coverage as required by state law or policy
- Strong organizational and communication skills, both verbal and written
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and EMR systems
