About the role

Everwind Hospice is seeking a PRN Hospice Chaplain to provide compassionate spiritual care that respects each patient's values, beliefs, and personal wishes. As a member of the interdisciplinary team, you will offer emotional and spiritual support, assist patients and families in finding meaning and peace, provide bereavement support, and collaborate with other team members to deliver holistic hospice care.

Responsibilities

  • Provide spiritual care, emotional support, and compassionate presence to hospice patients and their families.
  • Assess spiritual needs and develop individualized spiritual care plans as part of the interdisciplinary plan of care.
  • Offer prayer, scripture, rituals, sacraments, or other spiritual practices when requested by the patient or family.
  • Respect and support patients and families of all faith traditions, spiritual beliefs, cultures, and those with no religious affiliation.
  • Provide grief support, anticipatory grief counseling, and bereavement resources to families and caregivers.
  • Assist patients and families in addressing end-of-life concerns, meaning, forgiveness, hope, and legacy.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and collaborate with nurses, social workers, physicians, hospice aides, and volunteers.
  • Document visits and spiritual assessments in the electronic medical record according to agency policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Support hospice staff through encouragement, education, and spiritual care when appropriate.

Qualifications

  • Minimum qualifications: Ordination, commissioning, endorsement, or recognized standing with a faith community or equivalent training in spiritual care. Experience providing pastoral care, hospice, palliative care, hospital ministry, or congregational ministry. Ability to provide interfaith, patient-centered spiritual care regardless of the patient's beliefs. Excellent listening, counseling, and communication skills. Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • PREFERRED qualifications: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Theology, Divinity, Ministry, Pastoral Care, or a related field. One or more units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE). Board Certification through organizations such as: Association of Professional Chaplains (APC), National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC), Spiritual Care Association (SCA). Previous hospice or palliative care experience.
