As Hospice Aide, the work you do every day makes a difference in the lives of our patients. As a Hospice Aide you are an essential member of the Hospice team by performing various services for a patient as necessary to meet the patient's personal needs and to promote comfort.

How You'll Work

• You'll perform personal care needs for your patient and attend to their requests promptly.
• You will effectively communicate the patient's condition and significant changes to the assigned supervisory nurse and inform the caregiver of any issues.
• You'll be responsible for all practices and duties within the Hospice Aide scope of practice as outlined by the state.

Patient Care

• Provide care that includes baths, back rubs, oral hygiene, shampoos and changing bed linen as often as assigned.
• Take and record oral, rectal and axillary temperatures, pulse, respiration and blood pressure when ordered with appropriate completed/demonstrated skills competency.
• Assist in dressing and undressing patients as assigned.
• Assist in meal prep and feeding patients as assigned.
• Ambulate and exercise patients as instructed by the primary care nurse or therapist.
• Perform range of motion and other simple procedures as an extensional therapy service as ordered with appropriate completed/demonstrated skills competency.

Communication

• Maintain good relationships with the patient, the patient’s family, and staff.
• Reports any changes to the patient’s medical and living conditions to the supervisor or the primary nurse.

Minimize Patient Risk

• Meet safety needs of patient and using equipment safely and properly (foot stools, side rails, Oxygen, etc.).
• Provide proper care and observation of patient's skin to prevent breakdown of tissue over bony prominence.

Policies

• Adhere to the organization's documentation and care procedures and standards of personal and professional conduct.

Operations

• Attend in-service training and mandatory agency meetings.

Hard & Soft Skills

• Compassionate communicator with a positive attitude.
• Understanding of the hospice philosophy, comfortable providing specialized care to the terminally ill and secure with the issues of death/dying.
• Patience is a virtue when working with patients, families, physicians, and coworkers.
• Attention to detail is critical, as is being observant and following directions.

Requirements

• Meets the training requirements of the State and has successfully completed a state established or other training program that meets the State’s requirements of a competency evaluation program, or state licensure program.
• One year of experience is preferred, preferably in Hospice care.
• Valid driver's license and auto insurance in your name as a driver.
• Capable of all physical demands.
