Horticulturist

About the role

This position involves performing comprehensive landscape maintenance and horticultural tasks to ensure the health and beauty of outdoor spaces.

Responsibilities

• Conduct landscape activities such as pruning, mulching, weeding, mowing, planting, and deadheading to maintain aesthetic appeal.
• Inspect and repair irrigation systems, and perform plant health care including pest and disease management, watering, fertilizing, and applying pesticides per protocols.
• Communicate material and plant needs, assist with plant designs, and operate various landscaping equipment.
• Train volunteers and temporary staff, and ensure safety and efficiency in all operations.
• Adhere to policies, safety procedures, and maintain high-quality standards in all tasks.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in horticulture or 2 years of related experience; bachelor’s preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain Oklahoma pesticide license.
• Knowledge of public parks and horticulture, strong interpersonal and customer service skills, and excellent communication abilities.
• Proficiency with equipment operation, Word, and Excel.

Physical & Safety Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, perform physical labor including standing, walking, digging, and climbing, and work in varied environmental conditions.
• Must pass pre-employment drug screening and be willing to work flexible hours including holidays and weekends.
