Horse Trainer

Responsibilities

• Evaluate the capabilities of the program’s horses.
• Retrain or cross-train horses based on the initial assessment.
• Break and train newly purchased or donated horses for successful integration into Culver’s Horsemanship Program.
• Perform all duties relating to horse grooming, clipping and trimming, saddlery maintenance, and exercising.
• Maintain a safe and clean stable environment.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or High School Equivalency.
• At least four years of horse training experience.
• Completion of an accredited Equine Study Program with an emphasis on military riding as it pertains to drills, parades, and ceremonial riding events (highly desired).
• Experience of riding over ground poles and fences for training and being competent at lunging and long reining with the use of training aids.
• A valid driver’s license and a good driving record.
• Comfortable working around horses, ability to lift 50+ lbs frequently, and physical capability to extend bending, stooping, and walking.
• Willingness to work as part of a team and flexibility to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.
